Information about planning
All planning applications affecting land or properties in Westerleigh & Coalpit Heath Parish have to be submitted to South Gloucestershire Council.
South Gloucestershire Council is the Planning Authority, and decides the outcome of planning applications.
Residents can find the documents for all planning applications by typing a postcode or street address into the search box on the South Gloucestershire Council website planning portal. This is also where any resident can comment on a live planning application.
The Process
As soon as South Gloucestershire Council starts the application consultation process, it notifies Westerleigh & Coalpit Heath Parish Council. The Parish Council has 21 days to make any comments. The Parish Council is consulted on all planning applications affecting the parish, but South Gloucestershire Council, as Planning Authority, decides the outcome of planning applications.
The Parish Council response may include representing the views of residents of the Parish, so there may be occasions when residents also wish to contact the Parish Council to make their thoughts known, as well as submitting them directly on the South Gloucestershire Council website.
Anyone wishing to comment to the Parish Council, including the applicant, should contact the Parish Clerk quickly, once the consultation period starts. As a rule of thumb, within five working days of the consultation being issued is best. If you wish, you may arrange to speak briefly at the start of a Parish Council meeting to make your views known (if there is a meeting in the available timeframe). This also applies if you are submitting a planning application to South Gloucestershire Council and wish to explain any special circumstances to the Parish Council, before the consultation is issued.

Each Parish Council meeting agenda lists planning applications to be discussed at that meeting. Every application is discussed in a meeting as per the Parish Council’s Standing Orders, IF the consultation deadline and meeting dates allow.
